Hooters waitresses express their annoyance over the sexualization of their work uniform

Waitresses from the Hooters restaurant chain, through their TikTok accounts, criticized the new uniform shorts. The garment is so short that it resembles underwear, as one of the operators described it in a video on the social network: "I love my job, but I don't love wearing underwear to work" .

Kristen Songer, one of the workers, said the new shorts are too revealing. This criticism was also heard on the popular social network, where her other companions pointed out that the clothes are too short and that they do not cover anything of the body, which they consider sexist. At Hooters, which is a family-style bar, the waitresses wear sleeveless uniforms and shorts, but this time, they say, they are very small.

“So Hooters got new panties, I mean shorts” Said a user who is part of the staff of the restaurant chain on networks.

In a statement, the chain explained that its group is divided into two brands: The Original Hooters Group —with 25 locations in different parts of the US and the world— and Hooters of America. According to NBC, the change of uniform occurred as part of a collaboration with Hooters Girls only in some restaurants in Texas, that is, in the second brand.

“These uniforms have been worn for months in different Texas markets and have received overwhelmingly favorable reviews from Hooters girls and customers alike,” indicates the company. For its part, The Original Hooters assured that it does not plan to change its traditional uniforms.

After increasing criticism

Although Hooters of America maintains that the use of the new outfit has an empowering purpose — “We are excited to see a national trend in favor of self-expression and inclusivity which bodes well for our market. We continually work with the girls of Hooters to renew and update the image of our brand ambassadors and to empower them, so that they feel their best in their work” , they have pointed out—, the controversial comments have not stopped. In response, the network has indicated that waitresses will have the option to determine what type of shorts to wear .

But it is not the only decision that has raised criticism from the workers and the public, since there are also appearance rules in the restaurant: it is mandatory to wear makeup, smile all the time and wear completely white shoes.

Faced with this, the restaurant chain assured that the new uniforms, in addition to being the result of a collaboration with the "Hootie Girls", have been used for several months in various markets in Texas and that they have received positive comments about it.

The story of “the Hooters girls”

The famous American restaurant It first opened its doors in 1983 in Clearwater, Florida. Currently, it has stores in more than 30 countries.

“The girls from Hooters” are a differentiator of the restaurant, since the company assures that it seeks to boost its academics. According to managers, 70% of the workers are students.

Vladimir Putin gives sexist response to US journalist

Russian President Vladimir Putin has caused outrage over his sexist response to an American journalist. When the woman questioned him about the confrontation between Russia and Europe over gas supplies, the president suggested that she was too beautiful to understand his answer .

CNBC journalist Hadley Gamble asked Putin about recent accusations that Russia was withholding gas supplies to Europe to raise prices. The president replied: “Beautiful, pretty woman, I tell you one thing. She instantly tells me the opposite, as if she hadn't heard what I said."

Gamble chided him about her response, to which Putin replied: "Listen, I just told you: 'No gas is supplied to Europe through pipelines.'" In addition, she added that they are cheating on her. “Did I really say something so hard to understand?” she concluded herself.

The fact was repudiated in the US media and on social networks.
