A 25-year-old American claims to have contracted a serious bacterial infection after wearing denilla shorts for eight hours. This young woman from North Carolina, named Sam, recently shared her story in a video on TikTok that has been seen by more than eight million people, according to local media. Speaking about it with BuzzFeed portal, she explained that, three years ago, she had decided to wear that garment during one of her first dates with her current boyfriend. Although she felt uncomfortable, she decided to ignore that eventuality and enjoy the moment.
She spent the whole day with those shorts and the next day she felt sore and noticed that she had a lump in the area where the cloth was rubbing with her buttocks. A day later, Sam experienced "trembling and shortness of breath", so her mother had to take her from the emergency room to a hospital and the girl was admitted to an intensive care unit, where she stayed for four days. According to the diagnosis, she had suffered a septic shock from cellulite (acute infection of the skin that compromises subcutaneous tissue). The specialists considered the possibility of cutting the infected section in her buttocks, but the young woman managed to recover without surgery and was discharged. Regarding Sam's case, colorectal surgeon Carmen Fong explained to BuzzFeed that such infections are mostly caused by an anorrectal abscess, "caused by an anal fissure or anal fistula, which are quite common". Fong believes that the short and tight pants would have caused the young woman's skin a laceration that the bacteria took advantage of. The tight, damp and dark environment served as a perfect means for these microorganisms to prosper, he detailed.
