Pumas comes back against Cruz Azul and qualifies for the playoff in a great match

Ciudad Universitaria went from 'second home' to 'house of terror' for Cruz Azul. Almost a year after that fateful 4-0 in the semifinals, the Machine suffered a new comeback against the Pumas, who ended up beating the cement producers 4-3 to qualify for the playoff of the Apertura 2021 tournament of the MX League.

The goal party started early. Barely at minute 5, Arturo Ortíz put the home team ahead with a header after a corner kick from the left. The Auriazul defender appeared unmarked to leave Jesús Corona without a chance.

Just seven minutes later began the personal party of Roberto Alvarado, author of three goals in the initial part and who sent things 1-3 at halftime. The first goal for 'Piojo' came with a left-footed shot to the corner by Alfredo Talavera, taking advantage of a rebound from Ortíz inside the area.

At 20 'Alvarado scored the second to his personal account with a header inside the area, after a rebound by Alfredo Talavera shot by Santiago Giménez and a subsequent carelessness by Jerónimo Rodríguez, cold to the mark.

When the initial part was dying, Alvarado scored his first hat-trick as a professional. José Joaquín 'Shaggy' Martínez overflowed from the right and in a second attempt he managed to score a low diagonal for the arrival of 25, which sent it to save from the right.

Pumas remonta ante Cruz Azul y califica al repechaje en un partidazo

For the complement, the Pumas had only one option: score at least three goals to dream of qualifying for the playoffs... and that's what happened. Andrés Lillini decided to move his pieces, sending Diogo de Oliveira and Washington Corozo to the field, both key in the final result.

With just one minute on the clock, Favio Álvarez approached the university students with a left footed shot that hit the post before rocking the cement nets. Reynoso's team responded 120 seconds later, but Yoshimar Yotún's shot hit the post.

From there everything was painted blue and gold. At 49' Rafael Baca took Corozo's shot from the left on the line and at 57' Álvarez sent a right foot just to one side of Corona's goal.

The last half hour was even more spectacular for those at home. At 61 'Diogo de Oliveira scored his first goal in Mexican soccer, taking advantage of a service from Juan Ignacio Dinenno from the right. Draw 3-3 and continue dreaming.

Cruz Azul was able to regain the advantage at 74', in a counterattack where three elements attacked and only one defended. Lucas Passerini, who entered two minutes earlier, was filled with the ball and played it in the individual, despite having two men on his sides. The attacker opted for the shot on goal, covered by Talavera without inconvenience.

Ten minutes later Diogo de Oliveira signed the comeback and sealed the ticket to the playoffs. The Brazilian started the action in midfield, opened to the right for Favio and then closed the pincer, taking advantage of Corona's rebound against the Argentine's shot. Post and inside to put the final 4-3.

With the result, the Pumas climbed to eleventh position with 21 points, waiting for what Atlético de San Luis does against Santos. Cruz Azul stayed in eighth place with 23 points and two losses in a row, in addition to one win in its most recent six Liga MX games.

The Machine will face the Rayados del Monterrey in the playoff, in a guaranteed match; Pumas at this time would collide with Toluca.
