The CEO of Atlantic Copper, Javier Targhetta, has highlighted the essential role of Extenda as a catalyst for foreign trade in Andalusia and for its extraordinary support for the positioning of companies in the region in the main international markets with initiatives such as Extenda Global, whose latest The 2021 edition has had nearly 1,500 business meetings and 740 participating companies.

In an intervention, framed in a breakfast-conference organized by the Exporters Club of the Huelva Chamber of Commerce with the CEO of Extenda, Arturo Bernal, Targhetta again thanked the awarding of the XV Alas Awards, "an award that also implies recognition to the corporate body of the company and to all the contractor companies that operate daily in our facilities”.

Atlantic Copper, whose turnover exceeds 2,000 million a year, exports 50% of its production to more than 25 countries, which represents sales of some 1,000 million euros in the international market. "The presence in these markets and its deep Knowledge has made it possible that, during the pandemic, we have been able to maintain production thanks to increasing exports”, Targhetta stated.

At the meeting, the CEO of the Company presented the outlines of the CirCular project, declared of strategic interest by the Junta de Andalucía, and which will be the one with the greatest scope for Atlantic Copper both in terms of investment volume and economic impact.

“Thanks to CirCular, it will be possible to recycle 100% of the electrical and electronic materials that reach the end of their useful life in Spain and recover the contained metals such as copper, gold, silver, palladium, platinum, tin and zinc; metals that are key to decarbonisation, the energy transition and digitalisation”, underlined the CEO of the metallurgical company.

For Targhetta, recycling will be decisive in breaking with the external dependency suffered by the EU with respect to the supply of metallic raw materials such as copper; and in this sense he recalled the important role played by the Huelva Company as the leading supplier of refined copper and sulfuric acid in Spain and third in Europe.

For his part, the CEO of Extenda, Arturo Bernal, highlighted the importance that the foreign sector is having in the recovery of the Andalusian economy, with a historical record for the first nine months of the year of 25,081 million euros, which represents year-on-year growth of 22.4% and a trade surplus of 2,015 million. "A record and a positive balance that acquires more value -he pointed out- if it is compared with the deficit of the trade balance that Spain presents as a whole, of 13,267 million".

Bernal highlighted the role that the province of Huelva is playing in this economic reactivation of Andalusia through exports. "Huelva is today the spearhead of the Andalusian foreign sector, our first exporting province and also the one that most increased its sales abroad, with 6,061 million euros between January and September, 24.2% of the total, and a growth 46% over the same period in 2020”.

The CEO of Extenda valued the work carried out by the Huelva export sector, "which has grown by 37% of exporters so far in 2021, to a total of 1,410, of which 366 are regular exporting companies" .

In this sense, he highlighted the importance of Atlantic Copper in Huelva and Andalusian exports as a whole, "a company that Extenda has recognized with the Alas Awards, for its ability to act as a development engine for Huelva and Andalusia, with more than 3,000 jobs.

For his part, Daniel Toscano, president of the Huelva Chamber of Commerce, took stock of the initiatives developed by the Exporters Club during 2021 and announced that "next year it will become the Chamber Club to host initiatives that will go much further." beyond the field of internationalization, with an eye on cooperation and business competitiveness through informative, training actions and meetings of a different nature, to analyze issues of a different nature”. Thus, he announced the implementation of the 'Plus Ultra' Award, "aimed at the exporting company that we will deliver at the beginning of next year".

The event was attended by the delegate of the Andalusian Government in Huelva, Bella Verano; the president of the Port Authority of Huelva, Pilar Miranda; the deputy of the Presidency of the Provincial Council, Belén Castillo; the director general and secretary general of the Huelva Chamber of Commerce, Arsenio Martínez and Cinta de la Corte, respectively, as well as members of the plenary session of the Chamber Corporation.
