Ducati has presented the new member of the company in a world premiere through the Ducati World Première web series that it has posted on YouTube to premiere all the models that will arrive next year. This time it is the turn of an "old" acquaintance who has dressed up to tour the circuits.
It is the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak, a motorcycle that leaves behind the trail concept to focus on dynamic behavior on the track. It has solutions brought directly from its sister, the Ducati Panigale V4 S, such as the complete suspension equipment, the electronics or the brakes with a single intention: to go as fast as possible on circuits.
Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak: created to dominate the asphalt
Chapter number three of the web series that Ducati is carrying out to present all its novelties for 2022 had the name "Rule all mountains" (governs all mountains), a declaration of intent that made us dream of a capable model to conquer the most dangerous mountain.
And what mountain better fits those requirements than the famous climb of Pikes Peak in the United States. For the Italian firm it has also been the surname of its new mount, the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak, also making it the most powerful asphalt trail in its range. And it is that it has many novelties that will delight the most expert.
In fact, it was developed by introducing significant changes in terms of frame geometry, ergonomics, electronic controls, as well as numerous exclusive components, which give the bike a distinctly sportier attitude compared to the stock Multistrada V4.
Starting with its exterior, the first thing we realize is that this is a completely new version with a 17-inch front wheel and a single-sided swingarm at the rear. Two elements that make their intentions clear. The racing soul of the bike is intensified by the exclusive "Pikes Peak" livery in red and black, faithfully inspired by both the colors and graphics of the Ducati Desmosedici GP '21; even the numbers on both sides of the fuel tank help to highlight the deep link with the world of competition.
But in addition, to further emphasize its sporty character, it has a wide range of components made of carbon fiber, in addition to the Akrapovič silencer in titanium and carbon (homologated for road use). Other distinctive aesthetic elements are the low smoked screen, the Öhlins front fork feet in anodised gold and the two-tone black and red rear seat adorned with the V4 logo and the Ducati Corse badge applied to the "beak".
As for its mechanics, it continues to use the same V4 Granturismo engine from the conventional Multistrada, with 170 hp and a maximum torque of 125 Nm at 8,750 rpm. This engine, specifically designed by Ducati for the Multistrada V4 family, is extremely light (only 66.7 kg) and compact. With a displacement of 1,160 cc, it has been optimized to intensify the characteristics of the bike. In addition, it is capable of deactivating two of its four cylinders when it is idling, which represents an evolution in terms of performance and efficiency.
Where we find another significant change is in its frame. With a totally new geometry adapted to the changes undergone, the aluminum monocoque chassis has been adjusted to achieve a different inclination of the head tube (25.75° compared to 24.5° on the Multistrada V4), without forgetting that the geometry of the steering advance and the wheelbase have been recalibrated, adapting to the different uses of the motorcycle.
Compared to the Multistrada V4, the riding position has been completely revamped: the footpegs, for example, are higher and moved back to increase the maximum lean angle, while the handlebars are lower, narrower and uses a curved tube. The rider benefits from an even better feel in sporty driving while maintaining an excellent level of comfort.
The new machine mounts Marschesini brand black forged aluminum wheels that are 2.7 kilos lighter than those of the Multistrada V4 S, contributing to more efficient dynamic behavior and reducing the total weight of the set by 4 kg. To fit these rims, it uses asphalt-ready Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV sport tires measuring 120/70 at the front and 190/55 at the rear.
In addition, the suspensions have been changed to Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 that guarantee brilliant performance in sports driving, through the use of an "event-based" mode, the same adopted by the Panigale V4 S and the Streetfighter V4 S, which adjusts automatically the settings according to the user's driving style.
To stop it, Ducati has also relied on the same brakes from the Panigale V4. A Brembo Stylema braking system with two 330mm discs at the front wheel and monobloc calipers while at the rear, it uses a single 265mm disc combined with a floating caliper.
In terms of electronics, the Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak inherits the latest generation of the sophisticated electronic package from the Multistrada V4 S, which includes, among others, the standard radar technology both at the front and at the rear, offering Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Blind Spot Detection (BSD).
In addition, it also includes electronic innovations designed to obtain sporty driving. Along with the optimization suffered in the engine, one more driving mode called Race has been included, which improves both the speed of the Quickshifter and the stretch in the revolutions. The response of the anti-wheelie control has also been improved, as well as that of the ABS Cornering to be safer and work in any driving situation, even the sportiest. The 6.5-inch TFT screen is available as standard and allows the user to see the GPS navigator thanks to the advanced Ducati Connect system.
